Animal Communication
A power originating her own world, Ruby is capable of communication with animals. It functions more as an emotional conduit than actual words depending on the sapience level of the animal in question. An animal like a crow is more likely to be capable of complex communication with her than a chicken would be, for instance. This ability only works if she knows the animal is there, and only within a reasonable distance (typically an average person’s line of sight). This power is hereditary, unbeknownst to her. This qualifies as a psychic power.
The Gift of Flames
A power originating from her own world that was granted to her by a flame deity, Ruby is capable of starting modest flames when desire and intent to do so meet. The ability to use this power is affected strongly by how much energy she has. Though she has been practicing this ability for months, sustaining a fire without fuel for too long will drain her energy rapidly. Her record upon entering MoM is five minutes. While this ability can’t be used to force damp things to catch fire, she can create and suspend flames in midair at a marginally greater cost to her energy than simply creating a flash of flame.
Under this umbrella, she was also granted a strong resistance to damage caused by flames. Other sources of heat (such as lasers) will damage her as they would any other human, and she can dehydrate as quickly as any other human being in hot environments. Furthermore, while she can stand unharmed in a bonfire, super-hot flames such as those created in laboratories for testing will damage her, albeit at a less serious level than typical. She is not protected from smoke inhalation, or from other harmful substances that can be let off by burning objects.
Limited Teleportation
When Ruby was brought to this world via the porter she was given a new power to learn alongside those that she’d been familiar with, a limited form of teleportation. This form of teleportation utilises flames, requiring a flame on both sides of the transport. While she can jump through a flame as small as a candle, it takes far more energy to do so than to jump through a larger fire. In order to jump through a flame she must know it is there. While it’s theorised this method of teleportation could be used to travel long distances, the energy drain means that Ruby currently can only teleport reasonable distances - a block or two at most to begin with. Speaking of energy drain, this ability is tiring to use and while it is possible to become accustomed and to spend less energy over time, this takes a lot of practice to do so.
While Ruby has yet to test this, she is capable of bringing living beings with her. However the following limits apply:
- She personally must be in physical contact with the living being.
- The amount of energy it will take to teleport the other person is equal to twice what it would take to teleport just her. (Example: Teleporting herself takes 10 energy. Teleporting one other person takes 20. To teleport herself and two others it would take 50 energy.)

Original Character
Appearance: Short and thin. Pale skinned and dark grey eyed. Her hair is dyed brown. She has numerous scars from battle, practice, and accidents. If she's not at work she tends to have a fairly neutral expression by default. At work she goes for a fairly pleasant service industry smile. When not at work she can commonly be found wearing at least two shirts, one of them dark and the other a middling colour, usually black or earth tones. It's rare she's not wearing pants and some form of over-the-ankle boots. She is always wearing glasses.
Her demeanor is situational, but it's safe to assume that she has a firm stance, and can be seen glancing around to keep an eye on every aspect of her surroundings, even if she does try to keep this subtle.
Voice: Ruby's accent is an odd one. She was trained to speak English by someone with a Brittish accent from a very young age, but most of her interactions past that age were with English voices were online and disproportionally from videos spoken in American or Canadian English. To add to this, she did very little speaking English herself after the age of eight, and spoke almost exclusively in Japanese. In short: when she's speaking in English, her accent is a wreck.
It's worth noting that she has vocal fry, even at her young age.
Scent: She either smells like cheap soap, diner food, or like a forest. Possibly all three depending on the day of the week.

Anyone who scans her thoughts is likely to be inundated with these plans, which are often violent in nature. Further information below in 'warnings'. Her only real defense against mental abilities is that she has a strong will, but seeing as how she can't sense the use of mental abilities, she's at a serious disadvantage there.
Magical information: Ruby lacks magic and barring a magic item coming into her possession she will give off no form of magic aura. However, if someone can sense divine power, they will sense the gift of flames, given to her by a flame deity.

Hugging this character: Allowed. Though Ruby will likely have an adverse reaction based on who the character is and how well they know her. The adverse reaction can be as minor as freezing in alarm and as major as trying to punch the individual. She is likely to be awkward at any rate.Kissing this character: Allowed. Flirting with this character: Allowed. She reacts negatively to boys flirting most of the time. She reacts in a variety of positive ways when girls flirt with her most of the time.

Ruby has never had even the slightest semblance of a normal life, so her reactions to things might be very strange. She doesn't always know what things she's experienced count as abuse (serious isolation and emotional neglect being obvious examples) and this might come through in her everyday conversations. Please be aware that Ruby doesn't see anything wrong with a lot of the things that happened to her (yet). Abuse and other such things will be tagged by me where appropriate.
Ruby has experienced cult abuse, and was being groomed by an adult. She is fully aware that this is fucked up, and is likely to avoid mentioning it whenever possible, however this might be picked up by psychics if they happen to be on a topic that has her thinking about these things. She might also bring up cult abuse in some very specific situations, but those are uncommon and require active prompting on the part of another individual.
Ruby might just hecking deck someone if they start making light of sexual assault, and will at the VERY least attempt to make every interaction with her by them as frustrating as humanly possible. While this can be talked out if they were friends before the comment, strangers will have an uphill battle.

Hello. I'm working on getting everything set up here. I'm completely new to Dreamwidth RP (though I have almost two decades of experience across a lot of other platforms!) and am still figuring out what all needs to be put on the blog, and what sort of information is customary.
